For almost a century, coffee promoted the birth of cities, and the construction of railroads in the countryside of Sao Paulo State to transport the production to the Port of Santos, and it has consequently pushed international trade.

Nowadays, Brazil is the largest producer and exporter of coffee beans. This achievement began at around 1860 when Sao Paulo received a project to build a railroad to take Alta Mogiana’s coffee to the Port of Santos.

The Mogiana’s Railroads Company, founded in 1872, was essential to expand the coffee production towards the countryside of Sao Paulo State. At the beginning, the line operated from Campinas to Jaguariuna. Years later, it was extended to Mogi Mirim with a branch to Amparo. Later on, the line arrived in Casa Branca and continued until reaches Franca.
